If you’re looking for a roof that will provide years of reliable performance and a great warranty coverage, you can’t go wrong with the GAF Lifetime Roofing System. Local roofing company Fields Roof Service takes a look at its key components.
Leak Barriers and Roof Deck Protection
After making sure that the roof deck is suitable for roof replacement (and performing repairs if needed), GAF-certified roofers begin the installation process with leak barriers and roof deck protection. The leak barrier, like GAF WeatherWatch®, is applied to the most vulnerable parts of the roof, including the roof edge. The rest of the roof deck is covered by Shingle-Mate® or VersaShield®, the roof deck protection or underlayment.
Starter Strips
The roof edge is most vulnerable to damage from high-speed winds and updrafts. Starter strips are installed as the first row of shingles at the roof’s edge, but instead of individual shingle pieces, they are a single roll of material that matches the rest of the roof. Drip edges, a type of flashing that helps prevent water infiltration at the roof edges, will also be installed at this point.
Lifetime Shingles
The main areas of the GAF Lifetime Roofing System is covered with the rest of the asphalt shingles. To ensure optimal long-term performance, GAF Lifetime shingles can only be installed by GAF-certified installers.
Attic Ventilation
Proper ventilation helps prevent damage caused by trapped heat and moisture in the attic. The GAF Lifetime Roofing System features the Cobra® Attic Ventilation. These ridge ventilation strips are designed to vent heat and humidity from the attic while preventing dirt and debris from getting in. Soffit vents that are sized to match help ensure continuous airflow.
Ridge Caps
Traditionally, roofers simply cut asphalt shingles to cover the roof ridges and ventilation strips. The GAF Lifetime Roofing System features specially-made ridge caps that fit over the Cobra Attic Ventilation strips, creating a cleaner look without blocking the vents themselves.
